Job Title:                     WINTER LIFT OPERATOR LEVEL I

Department:               Mountain Operations

Reports To:                Lift Supervisor

Rate of Pay:                $10/hr to $10.50/hr

                              MUST BE AVAILABLE WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS   

 

SUMMARY

A Winter Lift Operator will have a basic knowledge of lift operations and work closely with the Lift Supervisors and Lift Foremen to provide mountain knowledge and guest service. They will observe and assist with the use and operation of Sundance's chairlifts. They will set the example to all staff by living the Sundance guiding principles on a daily basis and by working alongside their foremen, supervisors and managers to provide excellent service to our external and internal guests.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Works under the direction of the Director of Mountain Operations, lift supervisors, and lift foreman.

Observes and assists with the use and operations of Sundance's chairlifts.

Operate gasoline, diesel, or electric lifts that transport skiers, patrons and equipment up slope or mountainside.

Offers friendly customer service, exceeding guest expectations.

Responsible for checking and scanning all lift passengers for valid lift tickets.

Clears and adds snow where needed, noting in-time may be adjusted to accommodate this work prior to opening the mountain.

Observes and assists with the loading, transporting and unloading of guests onto and off the lift.

Must be able to assist guests to their feet or in and out of chairs as needed.

Observes patrons boarding the lift to ensure they are properly seated in the chair.

Operates chairlifts in an efficient manner.

Ensures areas around lift stations are free of hazards.

Makes sure the daily lift logs are filled out correctly.

Sets up and tears down all lift line mazes.

Operates the lift line mazes in an efficient manner.

Uses the guests' names and strives to create relationships with our guests.

Answers any guest questions and addresses any guest concerns or problems to exceed customer service expectations.

Performs all other tasks required of employees when needed.

Diplomatically handles awkward situations.

Prepares for extreme temperatures and outdoor weather conditions.

Resolves concerns in accordance with Sundance policies and the applicable laws.

Reports all injuries sustained to supervisor immediately.

Takes designated routes down, and stays within your ability level while skiing/snowboarding on the hill.

Treats the guest with utmost concern while loading the chair or interacting with them.

Knows and abides by the resort's policies and regulations involving the operation of the lift.

Pays special attention to groups with kids and always extends the offer to assist kids in loading the lift.

Diligently checks for guests loading inappropriately or with unapproved items such as dogs, alcohol, no lift ticket etc.  

Be conscious of where co-workers are and assist as needed.

Skis or snowboards to and from your work stations (at an intermediate level).

Controls lift machinery to start, stop, and adjust speed of lifts such as handle tow and chair lift to provide an efficient and fun environment.

Checks lift passes and pictures for all lift passengers.

Collects and turns in expired, invalid, or fraudulently used passes and detains patron, referring situation to the Sundance Safety Office.

DRESS CODE

Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:

 

All aspects of the Personal Appearance Policy (spl#50) must be complied with.

All operators are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.

All clothing must be unwrinkled, clean and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Proper footwear for your activity as an operator is required.   Snow boots are strongly recommended

Sundance-issued hard shell and soft shell jackets shall be worn when appropriate.

T-shirts (short or long sleeved) must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

Sundance logo sweatshirts are permitted.

Navy or black shorts for warmer days are allowed.

Black snow pants are required to be worn when appropriate.

Sundance logo baseball caps are permitted: beanies are permitted provided they have no logo or a sundance logo.

Any type of glove to protect from the elements of being outside is allowed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Customer service experience in the ski industry is preferred but not required.

 

TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

Use of 2-way radio.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.  .  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee will be working at night and may have special conditions that may come and go with this circumstance. Such as low temperatures, ice, low visibility. Etc. etc.

 

MENTAL ABILITIES

Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures

May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, avalanche control morning requirements and commuting to/from Sundance.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
