Job Title:                    ZipTour Mechanic

Department:                Mountain Operations

Reports To:                ZipTour Manager

Rate of Pay:                $11.50/hour

Anticipated Start Date: 05/09/2020

Shift:                            Weekends, holidays and special events are required based on business needs.



The ZipTour Mechanic executes monthly equipment inspections for the entire inventory, repairs any red tagged trolleys, and notes unusual wear of equipment or patterns in failing parts.  Oversees the spare parts inventory


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Read and understand full ZipTour operations & maintenance manual for all equipment systems utilized and the specific standards for each piece of equipment.

Understand overall engineering of the equipment to better diagnose and recognize unusual wear during inspections.

Understand and utilize all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and cultivate a positive culture around PPE usage.

Understand the time sensitive nature of monthly inspections, and ensure all monthly inspections are completed on schedule.

Assist in training new zip line operators to the Sundance standard.

Assist in training zip line staff on daily inspections standards.

Replace brake pads on trolleys and document maintenance appropriately.

Document and conduct monthly equipment inspections on helmets, harnesses, and trolleys.

Conduct morning meetings and provide a meaningful zip line specific training.  

Work and communicate with your fellow mechanics, cultivate a team atmosphere.

Monitor and utilize the spare parts inventory, keep the inventory list up to date, and notify manager when new parts need to be ordered.

Passionately educate guests about the history of Sundance, geology, flora, and fauna and Sundance's environmental commitment.

Be a good steward of the mountain.

Assist in course set-up and take-down at the beginning and end of each season (nets, pads, ladders, etc.)

Attend required meetings and trainings. Comfortably work at heights.

Handle stressful situations and large workloads calmly and effectively.

Handle multiple tasks and be creative and motivated.

Work and stay motivated with minimal supervision.

Exhibit a high level of attention to detail to ensure safety and quality of inspections.

Exhibit excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Exhibit excellent organization skills to keep all parts, paperwork, equipment, and tools orderly and accounted for.

Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele.  As representatives of Sundance and leaders of our teams, mangers are expected to set the example for all employees. 

In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, managers and supervisors are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area.  Please use the following as a minimum standard. 


All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

Wear nametags at all times while on duty.

Must wear designated uniform t-shirt at all times

Clothing must be unwrinkled, clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Blue jeans are permitted.

Men's shirts must be tucked in.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.

Bare midriffs are prohibited.

Shorts may not be shorter than 2" above knee.

Close toe and heal footwear is required a sturdy work shoe is strongly recommended

Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.

If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos. 

If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Have at least one season of ZipTour experience or exhibit competence in the ZipTour ride system and Sundance Mountain Resort specific mountain operations. Completed Level 1 Packet minimum requirement.




Use of a 2-way radio is frequently required.



Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Based on ZipTourRider Requirements, Zipline Employees must meet the following standards to ride the Zipline:

Measure between 48" and 82" tall.

Weigh between 40 and 260 pounds.

Must not be pregnant.

No history of neck, back or spine injuries.
