Job Title:                    Summer Guide           

Department:                Sundance Mountain Outfitters

Reports To:                 SMO Manager

Rate of Pay:                $10.00-$11.00/Hour (DOE)

Anticipated Start Date:  05/01/2020   

Shift:                           On-Call Position.



The Summer Guide creates a memorable, engaging and fun experience for guests by hosting guided mountain bike and hiking excursions. 



Exhibits deep understanding and knowledge of the trail systems, ecology, and history of the surrounding area and Sundance mountain to execute an informative and entertaining guided hike or ride.

Gauges the guest biking skill levels.

Develops guided trail lesson plans.

Oversees all required documentation and safety.

Participates in scheduled training that furthers knowledge of the area, trail systems, biking, teaching, flora and fauna knowledge, etc.

Shares Sundance's story of land preservation and environmental commitment with guests.

Easily builds rapport with guests by communicating effectively and promoting a safe environment.

Demonstrates familiarity with all resort departments, amenities and programming events.

Cross-sells and up-sells other departments, experiences, or equipment that will enhance the guest experience.

Manages small to large guest groups in an effective and positive manner while staying within time constraints.

Coordinates effectively and positively with group leaders.

Adjusts to changing requests and situations based upon group dynamics.

Manages various skill levels within the group and provides a positive learning environment for everyone.

Possesses an understanding of bike-skills-progression, and applies it when determining appropriate clinic level, terrain, speed and techniques. 

Adjusts rental equipment on the mountain to standard, as needed, to ensure a safe and comfortable excursion.

Exhibits basic understanding of bike repair such as; flat repair, simple brake adjustments, seat adjustments etc.

Communicates with bike patrol in an effective and appropriate manner, reporting any emergency situation, and assisting bike patrol as needed.

Completes appropriate documentation regarding injuries, situations that occur within guided event, or witnessed while guiding.

Performs basic first aid until patrol arrives.

Supports on-mountain recycling program.

Shares the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the opportunity arises.

Exhibit job and product knowledge to accurately support and promote all Sundance departments, amenities and programming ventures.

Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position, for example:  minimize waste, recycle, conserve energy, purchase and use sustainable products, educate co-workers/guests on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar environmental ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats, car-pool with colleagues and coworkers to minimize carbon emission.  All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.



Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele.  As representatives of Sundance all employees including mangers are expected to be in compliance with the Dress Code determined for his/her department as defined in the job description or follow the standards below.


In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area.  Please use the following as a minimum standard: 


All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

All members of SMO are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.

Clothing must be unwrinkled, clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Men's shirts must be tucked in.

Uniform T-shirts must be in good condition and have Sundance or Sundance Patrol logos.

Baseball caps must be in good condition and have Sundance or Sundance Patrol logos.

Shorts are permitted; mid-thigh or longer.

Blue jeans are permitted.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.

Bare midriffs are prohibited.

Proper footwear for your department is required.

Flip flops and sandals are prohibited in all areas.

Tennis shoes are permitted.

Fashion sneakers are allowed within department approved parameters.

Ability to operate 2-way radio for communication with Safety/Patrol.



Current CPR certification (May acquire by attending pre-season CPR training).



Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
